ASB Tuition fee adaptation to services provided due to COVID Crisis/Adaptación de la cuota ASB al nivel de servicio por la crisis del COVID

Everyone agrees today that the crisis we are experiencing is exceptional and is generating incredible movements of solidarity. This crisis is forcing us to negotiate with many players and requires a certain degree of flexibility, goodwill, and compassion.

This petition is being sent to you on behalf of a group of parents who have signed a specific request (68 families representing approx. 90 students). We are also aware that some families who approve our approach did not want to sign for fear of the consequences, "what will people say", or simply resignation.

This group represents ASB families who will be impacted by this crisis, parents who do not have unlimited means, parents who are investing their own money for the education of their children, parents who are perhaps not a majority of ASB parents, but a non-negligible group. 

We fully share the values of the American School of Barcelona which seeks to continuously improve through innovation. We also fully adhere to the ASB's goal to be recognized as the premier international school in Europe that empowers students to lead with integrity, open their minds and transform the world.

In times like these, we particularly support values such as solidarity, honesty, truth, transparency, fairness, justice and compassion.  We understand that the ASB has taken measures to try to guarantee a minimum service of education. We particularly appreciate the efforts of the teaching staff and the staff to continue to offer a service called virtual school. 

This service is of course not ideal and is certainly more suitable for some ages than others.  

As far as the children of PK are concerned, the staff thanked several times, the help and support of the parents acknowledging the difficulty to educate virtually.  

Mr. Jeremy acknowledged in the chat (Board Director Parent Chat Sessions on Friday, April 3rd in the Spanish version) that a child in 1st grade, with the program in place as it is, could independently work for one to two hours a day.... (vs 8hours).  

MS y HS seem to be busier, without having the intensive schedule that they would have when going to school and especially without interactions or live classes with their teachers.  Other schools, such as Colegio Suizo or Oak School (information related by parents), offer many interactive classes with teachers. 

We still do not understand why ASB is not able to offer such a service. 

A survey has been carried out. Unfortunately, it seems that few parents did take the survey and also, it is important to note that this has been conducted only once, two weeks after the state announced the State of Alert, and no one knew what was going to happen. Nor was it announced that the results of the investigation would be used to justify the payment of full school fees. We encourage the school to openly ask the parents the question and ask them if the tuition paid for the service offered is fair.  

The school argues that its financial stability is at risk: "In order to ensure the financial stability of the school, a non-profit organization that is funded solely by tuition fees, the ASB Board of Directors will continue to apply the same tuition rates until the end of the 2019-20 school year". It is sad to note that ASB's financial situation is so precarious.  

We understand the situation and we also understand that the crisis may affect its financial health. However, like many other companies, or professionals, there are several options available to the school to deal with this crisis (ERTE, credit moratorium, fundraising,…)We also understand that ASB should, rather than passing the financial responsibility to parents, search for the most appropriates financial options in order to stick to its values.

With good and moral sense, the school should, like many other schools, offer a fair and adapted tuition for the education and services it currently provides to families. Our goal is not to tell you what to do.

We are only asking that ASB sticks to the values it so often advocates and protects its entire community (including families).

We, therefore, ask that ASB, on the basis of common and moral sense, respect for values and its community, consider adapting the fee to the services provided. Many parents have been very generous towards the school when it was needed, not only volunteering their time but also financially (brick with your family name,  100-day, fundraise, individual donations, sponsoring musicals, shows, participating in Spring cocktail, International day, food drive, toy drive, etc.   

For all the reason above we expect good and moral sense, as well as some reciprocity during these difficult moments 

The families who subscribe to this petition want to continue to support ASB and are willing to pay for tuition fees as long as it is fair and in line with the services provided by the school. 

Therefore, we propose the following discounts: 

PK: 60% to 80%

ES: 45% to 60%

MS y HS: 25% to 35%

Todo el mundo está de acuerdo hoy en que la crisis que estamos viviendo es excepcional y está generando increíbles movimientos de solidaridad. Esta crisis nos obliga a negociar con muchos actores y requiere un cierto grado de flexibilidad, buena voluntad y compasión. 

Este petición se envía en nombre de un grupo de padres que han firmado una solicitud específica (68 familias que representan aproximadamente 90 estudiantes). También somos conscientes de que algunas familias que aprueban nuestro enfoque no quisieron firmar por temor a las consecuencias, "qué dirá la gente", o simplemente por resignación.

Este grupo representa a las familias de ASB que se verán afectadas por esta crisis, padres que no tienen medios ilimitados, padres que están invirtiendo su propio dinero para la educación de sus hijos, padres que quizás no son la mayoría de los padres de ASB, pero un grupo no despreciable. 

Compartimos plenamente los valores del Colegio Americano de Barcelona que busca mejorar continuamente a través de la innovación. También nos adherimos plenamente al objetivo de la ASB de ser reconocida como la primera escuela internacional en Europa que capacita a los estudiantes para liderar con integridad, abrir sus mentes y transformar el mundo. En tiempos como estos, apoyamos particularmente valores como la solidaridad, la honestidad, la verdad, la transparencia, la justicia y la compasión.  

Entendemos que la ASB ha tomado medidas para tratar de garantizar un servicio mínimo de educación. Apreciamos particularmente los esfuerzos del personal docente y de la plantilla para seguir ofreciendo un servicio llamado "escuela virtual". Este servicio no es, por supuesto, ideal y es ciertamente más adecuado para algunas edades que para otras.

En lo que respecta a los niños de PK, el personal agradeció varias veces, la ayuda y el apoyo de los padres reconociendo la dificultad de educar virtualmente.  

El Sr. Jeremy reconoció en el chat (Sesiones de chat para padres del Director de la Junta el viernes 3 de abril en la versión española) que un niño de 1er grado, con el programa en marcha tal como está, podría trabajar independientemente de una a dos horas al día... (vs 8 horas).  

MS y HS parecen estar más ocupadas, sin tener el horario intensivo que tendrían si fueran a la escuela y especialmente sin interacciones o clases en vivo con sus maestros.  Otras escuelas (según reportado por padres de estos coles), como el Colegio Suizo o el Oak School, ofrecen muchas clases interactivas con los profesores. 

Seguios sin entender por qué ASB no es capaz de ofrecer tal servicio.

 Se ha realizado una encuesta. Desafortunadamente, parece que pocos padres han contestado a la encuesta y también, es importante señalar que ésta se ha realizado sólo una vez, dos semanas después de que el estado anunciara el Estado de Alerta, y nadie sabía lo que iba a pasar.

Tampoco se anunció que los resultados de la encuesta se utilizarían para justificar el pago de la totalidad de las tasas escolares. Animamos a la escuela a que pregunte abiertamente a los padres si la matrícula pagada por el servicio ofrecido es justa.  

La escuela argumenta que su estabilidad financiera está en riesgo: "Para asegurar la estabilidad financiera de la escuela, una organización sin fines de lucro que se financia únicamente con las tasas de matrícula, la Junta Directiva de la ASB seguirá aplicando las mismas tasas de matrícula hasta el final del año escolar 2019-20". Es triste observar que la situación financiera de la ASB es tan precaria.  

Entendemos la situación y también entendemos que la crisis puede afectar a su salud financiera. Sin embargo, como muchas otras empresas o profesionales, hay varias opciones disponibles para la escuela para hacer frente a esta crisis (ERTE, moratoria de crédito, recaudación de fondos,...) También entendemos que ASB debe, en lugar de pasar la responsabilidad financiera a los padres, buscar las opciones financieras más apropiadas para mantener sus valores. Con sentido común y moral, la escuela debería, como muchas otras escuelas, ofrecer una matrícula justa y adaptada a la educación y los servicios que actualmente proporciona a las familias. 

Nuestro objetivo no es decirles lo que tienen que hacer. Sólo pedimos que ASB se apegue a los valores que tan a menudo defiende y protege a toda su comunidad (incluyendo a las familias).

Por lo tanto, pedimos que la ASB, sobre la base del sentido común y moral, el respeto de los valores y su comunidad, considere la posibilidad de adaptar la cuota a los servicios prestados. 

Muchos padres han sido muy generosos con la escuela cuando se ha necesitado, no sólo ofreciendo su tiempo sino también económicamente (ladrillo con su apellido, 100 días de recaudación de fondos, donaciones individuales, patrocinio de musicales, espectáculos, participación en el cóctel de primavera, día internacional, colecta de alimentos, colecta de juguetes, etc.   

Por todo lo anterior, esperamos sentido común y moral y una cierta reciprocidad en estos momentos difíciles.

Las familias que se suscriben a esta petición quieren seguir apoyando a ASB y están dispuestas a pagar la matrícula siempre y cuando sea justa y acorde con los servicios prestados por la escuela. 

Por lo tanto, proponemos los siguientes descuentos:
